Wilson Bentley was passionate about snowflakes. He grew up in rural Vermont in the late 19th century and used his parents' savings to purchase a camera that would attach to his microscope. He collected images of over 5,000 snowflakes and shared them with his community by having a slideshow of the images by lamplight against the side of his family's barn.
This sculpture was inspired by cutting paper snowflakes and so it is dedicated to him. Paper, lights, steel. 2007. 28" x 36" x 36" |
