Located in Atlanta, GA, Kefi was the prototype for an innovative children’s play space centered around digital folklore, interactive media, and an origami landscape. In the play areas, architectural lighting was kept low to the ground if it was white, so that the theatrical fixtures could fill the room with color. CD+M assisted the client with coordinating the theatrical lighting but was not involved in the programming of color or scenes. In the retail and parent lounge areas, colored light was kept to a minimum, to differentiate the room energy from the play zones. Almost all ceilings were exposed to structure, and most of the walls were angled to mimic origami folds. For this reason, architectural lighting was either hidden amongst decorative objects, integrated with display cases and furniture, or mounted in architectural niches.
