This project was a renovation of the main lobby for the tallest building in Georgia, the Bank of America building in downtown Atlanta. Working closely with the Gensler team, I was given the design challenge of lighting this voluminous space using high mounted small profile fixtures or fixtures concealed entirely from public view. Using various curved ceilings as architectural reflectors, I was able to accomplish this in the elevator and main lobbies. For the elevator lobby, a full-scale mock up was set up for the owner and design team to review. During the mock up, it was discovered that the wrong fixture sample had been sent, so a digital mock up was later created to compare the effects of what we saw in person to what we wanted to see installed. The digital mock up of what was desired matched the final installation, thanks to the reliability of Gensler's BIM model and Lumenpulse's precise ies data.
Additional accent lights were placed along the etched mirror stripes, under the main reception desk, at the coffee bar, and in the restrooms. Overall, the upgrade of this lobby as a sleek, sophisticated urban space was made whole by the effect of lighting selected and mounted through thoughtful design.
