Originally from Tennessee, I have lived in several cities along the east coast, and spent a semester abroad in Glasgow, Scotland during undergrad.
I discovered an interest in lighting through my sculpture background, when I began making sculptures that lit up, and later made installations of light and open spaces. My brother gave me a book on architectural lighting one year for Christmas, and it inspired me to look into graduate programs in the industry. I applied and was accepted to RPI and Parsons, but chose Parsons as it seemed better suited to my creative nature. I graduated with an MFA in architectural lighting design in 2010 and have worked in the industry ever since (see resume below).
My favorite thing about light is how it appears to breathe life into a space or object. I think people are quick to confuse the price of light with the value of light. Thoughtful lighting is exponentially more valuable than the cost of the fixtures.
Other than light I love dogs, art, mountains, the beach, silly dancing, wild hair, big earrings, any music with a saxophone, and Mexican food. I love to travel because it teaches me about things I can't imagine. I'm married to a letterpress printer; we have a daughter and a Jack Russel terrier. We live in a small town 25 miles east of Atlanta, GA.
