The Cambria Hotel in Washington DC is in the southwest quadrant of the city. The client wanted to preserve the community character despite adding a nine-story hotel, and so references to local individuals, street names, and history are referenced throughout the building. The project achieved LEED Gold, and for lighting that restricted the spill of light into the night sky above 90 degrees.
The rooftop bar features LED tape light integrated into a decorative steel frame that hangs a few inches below the ceiling. By integrating the light with this frame, it became the main light fixture in that space. The lobby needed to balance the brightness of the elevator media wall with the soft glow of decorative sconces and pendants. The street level bar used vertical tape light integrated with the millwork so that the shelving became a reflector of light into the space.
